On the tiny Caribbean island of Barbuda, big changes are afoot: a new international airport, golf course and luxury resorts are all in development.

The projects are backed by the central government of Antigua and Barbuda as well as international investors.

But some on Barbuda are skeptical of the benefits the new projects will bring as well as the potential environmental impact on Codrington Lagoon National Park, a wetland on the island protected by an international treaty. These doubts persist despite the fact that Palmetto Point, the main development site within the park, was previously damaged by sand mining.

On top of this, the erosion of a unique form of land ownership on Barbuda, that sought to ensure land could only be leased, not purchased, and that required all major developments to be approved by the local council, has caused further rancour between local politicians and the national government.

Disney Parks and Resort in-room skin care products supplier H2O+ to cease operations

After 33 years in business and almost 15 years as the supplier of Disney’s resort and cruise line toiletry products, H2O+ has announced it will cease operations.

H2O+ have been a regular sight in Disney hotel rooms for 15 years

In an announcement on the official H2O+ website, the company says, “After 30+ amazing years of innovation, we have made the very difficult decision to retire the brand at the end of the year.”

H2O+ became a fixture in Disney’s resort hotel rooms in 2008, supplying complimentary skincare and hair products.

The product’s future with Disney is unclear, with the company saying it will, “fulfill its obligation to supply products in accordance with agreements with its business partners”

H2O+ has been a long-time partner with the Walt Disney Co.

H2O+ parent company, Pola Orbis Holdings said, “Since joining the group, H2O Plus has been engaged in the manufacture and sale of cosmetics primarily in the US. However, the business environment surrounding the beauty brand has become “extremely difficult,” with sales falling short of expectations.

For 30 years, the Coco Palms Resort on Hawaii‘s island of Kauai has laid in ruins. Famously featured in Elvis Presley’s film “Blue Hawaii,” the resort is under new ownership, and its fate could be decided this week.

The new owners want to build a new 350-room hotel on the same site, according to KITV, and the permits are up for approval at a Kauai Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday. Opponents, however, would prefer it be turned down and replaced with a park or cultural preserve.
