Elite and super-luxe, the Smoky Mountains’ Blackberry resorts are a getaway above the rest | Entertainment/Life

Start with superior hospitality and luxury accommodations. Blend with legendary cuisine and libations. And baste with the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

That’s the recipe for a truly delectable vacation at Blackberry Farm and Blackberry Mountain, sister properties in Walland, Tennessee, just 18 miles southeast of Knoxville’s McGee Tyson Airport and 13 miles northwest of the Townsend entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains Park. Don’t look for commercials or ads about the venues; word of mouth and media mentions keep both properties heavily booked nearly year-round.

Andrea Rule, brand manager at Blackberry Mountain, said staying at either Blackberry property is a bucket list experience.

“Food and wine and a well-done cocktail are certainly the Blackberry experience. It’s Southern hospitality at its finest,” she said.

Winter Park Resort has announced a flurry of improvements for the 2022-23 ski season, beginning with new terrain in both The Cirque Territory and the Chutes on Mary Jane.

The anticipated new terrain in The Cirque is called “Jelly Roll,” because of its rolling steep pitch and its ability to hold light, fluffy snow for days after a storm. Additional terrain in the Chutes includes avalanche-controlled access to the popular “Powder Field” area between Trestle and the Chutes. The resort says skiers and riders will have access to almost twice as much expert-only terrain as last season.

Additionally, the resort announced:

More and earlier grooming

Enhancements to grooming operations will allow more and varied terrain opening as early as possible, according to the resort. With additional resources and staff for grooming,

Historic Beaver Creek golf resort is sold | The Verde Independent

LAKE MONTEZUMA – The former Beaver Creek Golf Course and historic ranch property has been sold to Sedona Vineyards LLC.

“We closed escrow on Aug. 31,” said Richard Chambers of Chambers Realty Group in Camp Verde. “It’s a pretty exciting deal.”

The property sold for $2.5 million, Chambers said, and it sold as one piece, which includes the former 18-hole golf course, the former Beaver Creek Ranch House property, 108 acres of agricultural land with water rights, a three-acre commercially zoned parcel, a clubhouse, equipment and a private residence.

Douglas J. Edgelow, of Phoenix, said they are looking forward to unveiling their plans for the property to the community very soon, but he said their intention is to have part of the golf course be vineyards. Edgelow is listed as the manager of the Sedona Vineyards LLC under the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Elk Lake Resort says closure signage is hurting business

As the Cedar Creek Fire continues to burn, the Deschutes National Forest has released an expanded emergency closure area. This includes trailheads, lakes and other day-use areas.

But Elk Lake is not closed and Elk Lake Resort says the closure signage is confusing people — and hurting business.

“It has affected our business. Not a lot of people have been coming in,” said Elk Lake Resort bartender Lauren Farmer. “They see the sign that it’s cut off at Homer. It’s just south of Homer that it’s cut off at. We’re actually right there on the border of it.”

The Lake is on the literal border.

Elk Lake Trailhead, right across the street from Elk Lake Resort, is closed, but the resort still has its gates open.

But will it shut down soon?

“Absolutely not. It’s a little windy today but

The envisioned project will feature a lagoon inside a swimming area and a rental area for kayaks, add more areas of sand beach and, more all located near the Island View Casino resort. The location was chosen based on its proximity to restaurants, hotels and shopping centers for tourism.

Big Snow Resort acquisition closes; names to be phased out

BESSEMER & WAKEFIELD, Mich. (WLUC) – The purchase of the Big Snow Resort in Gogebic County by a Minnesota family has been finalized. The Skinner family bought the resort, which includes Indianhead and Blackjack hills.

The resort will be re-branded over the next few months to Snowriver Mountain Resort. Blackjack will be renamed to Black River Basin and Indianhead will be renamed to Jackson Creek Summit.

The base area names will be changed to remain sensitive to Native American cultures, and the new names are for the two rivers running between the resort. Big Snow Resort will be renamed to eliminate confusion since Big Snow Resort is used at another ski operation elsewhere.

“For us, it was in a location that enabled us to see a nice circle of resorts between Lutsen, Granite Peak, and Big Snow Resort property,” said Greg Fisher, Midwest Family Ski Resort chief marketing officer.

The photo of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, annotated

Perhaps the most thought-provoking component of the court filing submitted Tuesday night by the Justice Department did not involve legal argumentation or an articulation of the department’s possible case against former president Donald Trump. Instead, it was a photograph showing documents arrayed on the floor of an unidentified room.

Clearly visible on more than a half-dozen of the papers: classification markings.

The government’s months-long effort to recover documents that were kept at Trump’s Florida residence after he left the White House doesn’t depend on that material being classified. But the question of whether Trump had classified material with him at his Mar-a-Lago resort has captured the public’s attention. The photo published by the government appears to answer that question quite affirmatively.

There is detail in the photograph that bears closer examination, detail not immediately apparent

Explosive device found at Colorado resort, to be detonated by authorities

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, an unexploded avalanche control device was discovered at Breckenridge Ski Resort. It’s now set to be detonated near the top of Peak 7 on Wednesday between 11 AM and 2 PM.

The detonation will likely sound similar to explosives used during avalanche work in winter months. There is no need for locals to call 911 when this is heard, according to the sheriff’s office.

While it might sound a bit wild that an explosive device was found in a mountainous area that gets explored by the public, it’s actually not that uncommon.

Throughout the winter season, these devices are used to keep the mountains safe and sometimes, devices simply don’t go off as intended.

For example, in 2019, the Colorado Department of Transportation – which typically isn’t involved with on-resort mitigation – used more than 1,500 explosive ordnances in backcountry areas that they’re
